GRUNDY CENTER - Grundy Center seniors Sam Meyers and Heather Hook combined for 50 points and 25 rebounds in leading the Class 1A No. 7-ranked Spartan girls' basketball team past Gladbrook-Reinbeck, 81-63, in Friday night's Coaches vs. Cancer game.
Meyers tallied a career-high 30 points and a season-best 14 rebounds, while Hook had 20 points and 11 boards as Grundy Center (12-3) improved to 10-1 in NICL West Division play.
Freshman guard Katie Lindeman added a career-high 16 points for the Spartans, who have a non-conference showdown with No. 8 Meskwaki today at Meskwaki Settlement.
Emily Snider paced Gladbrook-Reinbeck (5-9, 4-7) with 17 points and Erin Wentzien finished with 12.
West Marshall 70, BCLUW 26
CONRAD - Three players reached double-digit scoring as Class 2A No. 15 West Marshall cruised to a 70-26 victory over BCLUW in NICL West action.
Jenn Davis returned to the lineup with 18 points, Whitney Benson had 15 points and five rebounds, and Sydney Beals had 10 points and a team-high six rebounds. McKenna Hotopp added eight points and eight assists, and Gabby Ryerson had eight points as well for the Trojans (14-3, 10-1).
Kendall Scurr, Sarah McCoy and Olivia Callaway each put in six points to lead the host Comets (1-14, 0-11). Callaway led with 11 rebounds.
Meskwaki 64, GMG 36
GARWIN - Tiana Thompson and Dia Keahna combined to score 31 points in leading the 1A No. 8 Meskwaki girls to a 64-36 win over GMG in Iowa Star Conference action.
The Warriors (15-1, 11-1) won their eighth straight behind 16 points from Thompson and 15 for Keahna. Kadyn Clark and Essence Hoag had nine points apiece, and Shania Kapayou added eight points.
Caitlin Appelgate had eight points to lead GMG (0-15, 0-12), Mikaella Koster had seven and Autumn Rosacker six. Olivia Barritt had five points and a team-high eight rebounds.
Meskwaki opens a six-game homestand to close out the regular season as 1A No. 7 Grundy Center visits today.
North Tama 53, Don Bosco 30
TRAER - North Tama led 31-10 at the half and forced the season split with Don Bosco, 53-30, in Friday's Iowa Star Conference pairing.
Allison Zobel had 13 points and Anna Kvidera 12 for the host Redhawks (6-9, 6-6), who won for third time in their last four outings. Emma Knoop, Josie Youel and Sam Zobel each chipped in eight points. Sam Zobel led with seven rebounds while Youel had five steals.
Don Bosco (9-6, 8-5) won the first meeting with the Redhawks, 48-42. In this one, Brittany Hickson had 11 points to lead the Dons.
Colo-NESCO 62, Waterloo Christian 20
WATERLOO - Four players scored in double figures and the Class 1A No. 9 Colo-NESCO Royals routed Waterloo Christian, 62-20, in Iowa Star play.
Shayla Dean had 12 points and six steals, Madison Farren had 11 points, while Madison Eley and Caitlyn Riese both scored 10 as C-N (16-2, 12-1) won its 10th straight.
Whitney Smith led Waterloo Christian (3-12, 3-10) with six points as the Regents suffered their seventh consecutive defeat.
