Local man hit with handful of assault-related charges

Police arrested a local man for attempting to strangle his wife and holding her hostage Friday.

Diego Villa, 26, stands accused of holding his 24-year-old wife at their home on the 500 block of North First Avenue and not allowing her to call police after an argument escalated to him grabbing the woman by her throat, said Capt. Mike Hanken, with the Marshalltown Police Department.

The couple's 4-year-old son and 5-year-old daughter were present at the time of the incident but were unharmed.

Diego faces charges of felony domestic assault, a Class D felony, two counts of child endangerment, false imprisonment, aggravated misdemeanors, and obstruction of an emergency communication, a simple misdemeanor.

The MPD contacted the Department of Human Services and provided the victim with Domestic Violence Awareness information. She did not need medical attention.

Horseplay ends in aggravated misdemeanor charge for local man

An apparent argument between a local couple resulted in police arresting the man on a warrant and charging him with carrying weapons.

When officers arrived on the 300 block of North Second Street for a call that a man and woman were arguing and that the situation might turn violent, Anthony Stone, 47, of Marshalltown, allegedly fled the scene, said Capt. Mike Hanken, with the Marshalltown Police Department.

Police discovered that Stone had a warrant for his arrest out of Ottumwa County. During his arrest, a search of his person revealed a stun gun disguised as a cell phone, Hanken said.

The arresting officer charged Stone with carrying weapons, an aggravated misdemeanor.

Hanken said no one was harmed during the incident; the pair was simply engaging in horseplay.
