The Marshalltown School Board approved the continuance of the Instructional Support Levy for the next fiscal year at its meeting Monday.
The levy has been in place for at least seven years and last year it provided nearly $2 million in tax funds for the school district to help purchase instructional items.
In other discussion, the board heard a report from staff about the site visit from the Iowa Department of Education. Representatives from the IDOE visit every five years and they spent last week meeting with staff members, students and community members. A full written report from the visit is expected in the next 60 days, but the verbal report seemed positive from the IDOE.
Associate Superintendent Susan Pecinovsky said the representatives indicated there seemed to be a sentiment from students and staff that the school district is heading in a positive direction. She said one of the recommendations from the IDOE was continued access to technology for students.
The board also heard from Marshalltown High School student Tyler Kluver who recently played in the Under Armour All-America game.
"It was just overall a great experience," Kluver said.
The board commended Kluver for representing Marshalltown is a positive light and congratulated him.
The next regular meeting of the school board will be held at 5 p.m. Feb. 4 at district offices.
