SPORTS SHORTS: Bagley helps Cougars collect cross-NICL win

DENVER - Josh Bagley scored a career-high 31 points and had six assists to lead the AGWSR boys' basketball team to a 74-66 victory over Denver in cross-NICL play late Tuesday night.

Bagley made five 3-pointers and also shot 13-of-14 from the free-throw line to lead the Cougars (11-4) to a third straight win.

Braden Bonewitz added three treys on his way to 13 points, and Derek Schipper contributed nine points off the bench for AGWSR.

Brayden Neuendorf had five trifectas and 21 points to lead Denver (3-12).

Dike-New Hartford 64, Grundy Center 44

DIKE - Dike-New Hartford skipped out to an 18-4 lead after the opening period and put away Grundy Center, 64-44, in cross-NICL play Tuesday.

Sean Morgan scored a season-high 31 points on 13-of-17 shooting to go with 14 rebounds, five blocks and five assists to lead the Wolverines (9-8).

Dylan Lyman had 14 points and three steals to pace Grundy Center (5-12). Ryon Appel had nine points and six rebounds, and Brady Hook had nine points and four assists for the Spartans.

North Tama 54, Meskwaki 40

MESKWAKI SETTLEMENT - Three players scored in double figures and the Class 1A No. 10-ranked North Tama boys scored a 54-40 Iowa Star Conference triumph over the Meskwaki Warriors on Tuesday night.

Mitchell Boerm led the Redhawks (16-1, 13-0) with 16 points, Nolan Hefty had 14 points and 10 rebounds, and Brent Billerbeck added 10 points.

Demarce Keahna had 10 points to lead Meskwaki (3-13, 3-11). Corey Dye had eight points off the bench, while Darrion Murray had seven points and a team-high seven rebounds.

GIRLS

Gladbrook-Reinbeck 62, Jesup 56

JESUP - Erin Wentzien and Hanna Christopher scored 12 points apiece to lead Gladbrook-Reinbeck to a 62-56 win over Jesup (7-9) in Tuesday's cross-NICL contest.

Taylor Flamme added 10 points, nine rebounds and seven steals, while Wentzien had six steals. Emily Snider contributed five points and eight assists, Britney Keller had nine rebounds and five steals, while Nicole Adair and Bailea Evenson added six points apiece for the Rebels (6-10).

Bobcat freshmen slip past Dowling

The Marshalltown freshman girls' basketall team tallied a 34-32 victory over Dowling Catholic on Tuesday night at Lenihan.

Tabby Steffensen scored 13 points to pace the Bobcats, while Ruth Boland added seven points and Lexi Gimbel had six for MHS (8-8).

MHS frosh hoops schedule rearranged

The Marshalltown freshmen girls' and boys' basketball games scheduled for Feb. 1 against Ames have been moved to Jan. 31, the MHS athletic office announced Monday.

The Bobcat freshman 'A' girls will start at 5 p.m. followed by the boys, all at Lenihan Intermediate. The MHS sophomore boys' game will still be played Feb. 1 at 4:45 p.m. at Lenihan.
