SPORTS SHORTS: Iowa, Nebraska request to keep playing on Fridays

IOWA CITY - Iowa and Nebraska want to continue playing football against each other on the Friday after Thanksgiving.

Iowa athletic director Gary Barta and Nebraska's Shawn Eichorst will ask the Big Ten Conference to honor their request when an administrative council meets later next month.

"Playing on Friday is something we are planning to continue," Barta said in a statement. "There's a process we have to finalize with the Big Ten and we'll go through that process, but both schools are interested in that continuing."

The Hawkeyes and Huskers are currently slated to meet on the Saturday after Thanksgiving in 2013 and 2014, but they want to push those matchups up a day.

Iowa is set to travel to Lincoln this fall, with Nebraska playing in Iowa City in 2014.

The schools began their annual series when the Huskers joined the Big Ten for the 2011 season. Nebraska has won each of those meetings.

Roundhouse Reunion set for tonight

Marshalltown High School is hosting a Roundhouse Reunion event tonight during the Bobcats' basketball doubleheader against Ames, welcoming back any former Bobcat student-athlete or coach who competed in the Roundhouse.

Those former players and coaches who attend will be recognized at halftime of the varsity boys game. All former players and coaches will gain free admission to the basketball games, and there also will be a post-game get-together at Legends American Grill.

Bobcat meet-and-greet lunch today

A select number of Marshalltown winter sports student-athletes will be eating lunch today at Hy-Vee as a part of a Friday Meet-and-Greet.

The event will present an opportunity for members of the community to interact with the Bobcats.
