Man charged with biting girlfriend's face

A Marshalltown man faces an aggravated assault charge after he allegedly bit his girlfriend's cheek Sunday night.

Police responded to a call in the 400 block of West Church Street that Martin Arreola-Zavala, 47, had bitten his live-in girlfriend in the cheek, leaving a lasting mark, said Capt. Mike Hanken, with the Marshalltown Police Department.

Although police had heard allegations that Arreola-Zavala had brandished a gun in the 36-year-old woman's face, a search of the home and his car turned up only a box of .22 ammunition and not a firearm.

The police report became available Tuesday. The victim declined medical attention.

Local man threatens to kill wife

A domestic dispute ended with a harassment charge for a local man after he allegedly threatened to kill his wife.

Luis Corral-Sandoval, 42, of Marshalltown, allegedly shoved his wife into the bathroom shower and began hitting her repeatedly on top of her head, said Capt. Mike Hanken, with the Marshalltown Police Department.

During the alleged assault, Corral-Sandoval told the woman that he was going to kill her.

The couple have three children, but they were in another part of their home on South Third Avenue Sunday when the dispute took place, Hanken said.

Police charged Corral-Sandoval with serious domestic assault, a serious misdemeanor, and first-degree harassment, an aggravated misdemeanor.

Reports of the crime were unavailable until Tuesday.
