SPORTS SHORTS: Ankeny unkind to Bobcat basketball

ANKENY - Marshalltown's underclass boys' basketball teams went 0-3 with Monday's trip to Ankeny.

The Bobcat freshman 'A' team was defeated 59-33 by Ankeny Centennial despite Tony Smith's 25 points.

MHS (8-12) plays its season finale Tuesday at 4:45 p.m. against Des Moines North at the Roundhouse.

The freshman 'B' squad fell 48-45 to Centennial. Owen Spencer and Sam Weatherman both scored 13 points to lead the Bobcats, while Trevor Fuccio added nine points and Michael Chavez had six.

The Marshalltown junior varsity boys were beaten in their season finale, 71-39 by Ankeny. Connor Johnson led the 'Cats with 19 points and five assists. Hunter Chamberlin had 10 points, and Christian Guido added eight points and six rebounds for MHS (2-6).

The Bobcat freshman girls' squad lost a 36-26 contest with Ankeny as well. Rachel Whaley scored 12 points and Tabby Steffensen had five more for MHS (10-10) in the team's season finale.

MHS JV girls fall at Mason City, Ankeny

The Marshalltown girls' junior varsity basketball team closed the season with a 46-18 loss to Ankeny Centennial on the road Monday.

Kali Banks led the Bobcats (5-16) with six points and Emily Rebik added four as seven different players scored for Marshalltown.

MHS was doubled up by Mason City in a 56-28 loss on the road Friday. Rebik paced the Bobcats with 10 points, while Molly Major and Karli McClure both had four.
