A male juvenile made an initial appearance on a simple assault charge, a interference with official acts charge and a harassment-second degree charge. The public defender's office was appointed to handle his cases. All cases will remain together. The preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. on March 6. The juvenile was released on his own recognizance with the admonition to stay in touch with his counsel.
Tabitha Decker, address unknown, made an initial appearance on a warrant for violation of pre-trial release due to an arrest in Polk County charge. Merrill Swartz, previously appointed, will continue representation. The next court date is a pre-trial conference set for 9 a.m. on March 8. Bond is set at $2,000 cash or surety.
Vicki Jo Nelson-Forbes, of St. Anthony, made an initial appearance on a warrant for failure to appear for a review hearing charge. The warrant was lifted and the contempt of court action was purged.
Jessica Marie Street, of Albion, made an initial appearance on an assault on a peace officer charge, an interference with official acts-bodily injury charge, a operating while intoxicated-first offense charge and an assault on emergency room personnel charge. The public defender's office was appointed to handle her cases. The preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Feb. 22. Street was released per order of the court.
Richard Lee Gilbertson, of Searsboro, made an initial appearance on an assault charge. He pleaded not guilty and a pre-trial conference is set for 9 a.m. on March 12 in Magistrate Court. A no-contact order was issued for the protected party.
Jon Richard Kernes Jr., of Liscomb, made an initial appearance on a assault charge and a domestic abuse assault causing bodily injury charge. The public defender's office was appointed to handle his cases. The preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. on Feb. 22. A no-contact order was issued for the protected party.

The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a fire call at 405 W. State St., and four medical assists with the EMS crew to: 1301 Summit St., 612 W. Main St., 614 Summit St., and 802 E. Main St.

The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to three fire calls to: 134 E. Main St., and two at 207 E. Main St., and five medical assists with the EMS crew to: 402 N. 10th Ave., 514 E. Olive St., 1 W. Grant St., 101 Byron St., and 1705 W. State St.
Wednesday
The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to three assists with the EMS crew to: East State Street, 805 W. Main St., and 1500 Lincoln Tower Circle.
