Redhawks rack up 12th straight in quarterfinals

TAMA - Racing to a 43-11 halftime lead, Class 1A No. 6 ranked North Tama coasted past BCLUW 57-34 in District 8 quarterfinal play Thursday.

Jacob Wrage led the Redhawks (22-1) with 14 points, seven steals and seven assists, while Dalton Hulme recorded 13 points and eight assists. Mitchell Boerm tallied 10 points and four rebounds. Nolan Hefty scored seven points and Brent Billerbeck six as the Redhawks claimed their 12th straight win and host Colo-NESCO (14-9) in semifinal action Tuesday at 7 p.m. The Royals edged GMG 50-45 Thursday.

Wyatt Gunderson paced BCLUW (8-13) with 12 points, Conner Ubben scored 10 and Cole Silver had six.

Colo-NESCO 50, GMG 45

COLO - Brandyn Niemeyer imposed his will with 24 points, 10 rebounds and four assists as Colo-NESCO held off a late GMG rally for a 50-45 triumph in Class 1A District 8 play.

Jake Webb had 12 points and seven boards and J.T. Adams grabbed 12 rebounds as the Royals (14-9) built a 35-26 advantage entering the final frame. Adam Lytle added six points and six boards and Cole Osbun scored five as Colo-NESCO avenged a 53-46 loss to the Wolverines three weeks ago.

The Royals face sixth ranked North Tama in a semifinal contest Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Tama. The Redhawks (22-1) cruised past BCLUW 57-34 Thursday.

Chad Plaehn and Brock Fisher scored 10 apiece for GMG (11-12), which closed the season on a four-game skid. Austin Vaughn added eight, Luke Petty six and Blake Warren five.

Gladbrook-Reinbeck 59, Grundy Center 50

REINBECK - Zach Pierce poured in a double-double effort with 25 points and 10 rebounds to lead Gladbrook-Reinbeck past Grundy Center 59-50 in Class 1A District 8 quarterfinal play.

The Rebels (16-6) led by 13 after the first quarter though the Spartans (6-18) came within a single possession in the fourth. Jacob Smoldt added 12 points and seven rebounds as Gladbrook-Reinbeck posted its third win of the season over Grundy Center. Camden Kickbush chipped in 11 as the Rebels advance to host AGWSR (16-7) in a district semifinal Tuesday at 7 p.m. Behind 18 points from Josh Bagley and 10 from Evan Janssen, the Cougars defeated Northeast Hamilton 73-29 in their quarterfinal matchup Thursday.

Riley Wells led the Spartans with 16 points, while Elliot Eggleston and Brady Hook scored eight apiece and Lane Bangasser had six.

CLASS 2A

Dike-New Hartford 49, West Marshall 40

STATE CENTER - Back from injury, Carson Parker scored a game-high 18 points to guide Dike-New Hartford past West Marshall 49-40 in Class 2A District 6 semifinal action.

Sean Morgan added 10 points and Maccoy Camarata had six as the Wolverines (15-9) earned their second win in 10 days over the Trojans (16-6), overcoming a four-point deficit after the first quarter. Winning 10 of its last 11, Dike-New Hartford faces Aplington-Parkersburg (14-8) in the district final Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Marshalltown. The Falcons fended off Hudson 50-45 after losing to the Pirates twice in the regular season.

Duncan Ferch led West Marshall with 14 points, seven rebounds and four steals, while Christian Vis scored 11 and Reggie Gradwell eight. Matt Van Metre grabbed seven boards and Jacob Pzsanka swiped four steals as the Trojans were hampered by an off-shooting night in the second half and dropped four of their last six to close the season.
