Vera Tempel, 103, of Webster City, died Thursday, February 21, 2013 at the Israel Hospice House in Ames. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at the First Presbyterian Church of Kamrar with Rev. John Wilson officiating. Burial will be in the First Presbyterian Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 26, 2013.
Vera M. Bauer, daughter of Carl and Celia Chalfant Bauer, was born January 2, 1910 in Hamilton County. She attended Kamrar high school, graduating in 1929. On January 2, 1930, she married Lewis Tempel at the Little Brown Church at Nashau. The couple resided in Blairsburg for five years. In 1936, they moved to their farm home north of Kamrar. Her husband preceded her in death on March 27, 1972. She moved to Webster City in 1973.
Vera is survived by her children; Wayne (Linda) Tempel of La Moille; and Lora (Jack) Sweet-Jones of Kamrar; grandchildren, Laura Tempel-Kurtz, Patricia Fuchs, Veronica Tempel-Dutton, Denny (Dori) Sweet, Les (Margaret Hales) Tempel, Paula (Jim) White, Chris Tempel, and Andrew Tempel; 20 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents and a son, Elwin Tempel; grandchildren, Steven Tempel, LuAnn Tempel, Candice Tempel, Mary Lou Miltonberger; an infant grandson Sweet; brothers, Walter and Russell Bauer.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, a Sunday School teacher, United Presbyterian Women and church circles, Independence Friendly Neighbors Club, a Hobby Club and the Webster City Women's Club.
