Thursday

Matthew Anthony Leavy, 206 N. 15th Ave., made an initial appearance on a driving while barred charge and a operation without registration charge. He will engage the services of attorney Kevin O'Hare to represent him in these cases. The preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. on March 18. Leavy was released on his own recognizance.

Calvin Jon McCoy, address unknown, made an initial appearance on a violation of pre-trial release charge. Previously appointed Scott Hunter will serve as counsel for McCoy. Trial is set for 9 a.m. on March 5. Bond is set at $25,000 cash or surety.

Roger Evans Walker, of Tama, made an initial appearance on a driving while barred-habitual offender charge. The public defender's office was appointed to handle his case. The preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. on March 18. Bond will continue as posted until the conclusion of this case.

Antonio Lizarde, 1009 W. Boone St., made an initial appearance on a possession of drug paraphernalia charge. He pleaded not guilty and a pre-trial conference is set for 9 a.m. on March 26 in Magistrate Court. Bond will continue as posted pending the conclusion of this case.

Janice Waltemeyer, 509 W. Madison St., made an initial appearance on a compulsory education violation-second offense charge. The public defender's office was appointed to handle her case. The preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. on March 18. Waltemeyer was released on her own recognizance.

Arrests

On Sunday, Douglas Shane Duncan, of Tama, was arrested for no valid driver's license, driving under suspension and no insurance.

On Saturday, David Michael Stephen Bloomer, of Fort Madison, was arrested for operating while intoxicated-first offense and driving under suspension.

On Feb. 22, Kenneth Dean Earnest, of Des Moines, was arrested for violation of probation.

On Feb. 21, Jacob Lee Catherwood, of Garwin, was arrested for failure to appear-driving under suspension and a failure to appear-operation without registration.

Accidents

On Tuesday, a car driven by Joni Dee Hickman, of Toledo, was westbound on Highway 30 when it went out of control on the snow and ice covered roads, left the roadway to the right and collided with a reflective highway post before coming to rest in the north ditch. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Hickman car was estimated at $1,500.

On Tuesday, a truck driven by Predrag Mijatovic, of Waterloo, was northbound on Highway 330 when it went out of control on the partially snow covered road and entered the median where it incurred a minor jack-knife causing damage to the driver's rear corner of the cab. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Mijatovic truck was estimated at $4,500.

On Feb. 22, a car driven by Grant Joseph Ferguson, of Gilman, was westbound on Church Street approaching the offset intersection with Strait Street when it went out of control on the snowy road, entered the south ditch and struck a utility pole owned by Alliant Energy. Ferguson was possibly injured, but not treated at the scene or transported. Ferguson was cited for failure to maintain control. Damage to the Ferguson car was estimated at $5,000 while the utility pole received an estimated $1,000 in damage.

On Feb. 21, a car driven by Ernesto C. Garcia, 206 Sharon Ave., was southbound on Shady Oaks Road when it lost steering ability, veered to the right, entered the west ditch, impacted a field drive and came to rest in the field. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Garcia car was estimated at $3,500.

Feb. 21

The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to four calls to: 1711 S. Center St., 627 E. Nevada St., 1011 W. Nevada St., and 210 W. High St., a fire call to 1016 S. 3rd Ave., and two fire calls to 134 E. Main St., and two medical assists with the EMS crew to 412 E. Church St., and 1212 Marshall Dr.

Feb. 22

The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a call at 1211 W. State St., a fire call to 2001 S. 4th St., and seven medical assists with the EMS crew to: 208 1/2 N. 3rd Ave., 209 Olson Way, 511 S. 7th Ave., 402 N. 10th Ave., 309 N. 3rd St., 545 N. 3rd St., and 1203 S. Center St.

Saturday

The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to four medical assists with the EMS crew to: 410 E. Anson St., 201 N. 2nd Ave., 701 S. 7th Ave., and 1314 Summit St.

Sunday

The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a fire call to 1511 S. 5th St., and five medical assists with the EMS crew to: 19 N. Center St., 3202 S. 12th St., 1111 Jackson St., 102 W. South St., and 707 E. Boone St.

Monday

The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to four medical assists with the EMS crew to: 201 N. 2nd Ave., 303 Nicholas Dr., 2907 S. 6th St., and 10 1/2 W. Grant St.

Tuesday

The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to two calls at 1809 Sherwood Dr., and 703 Henry Dr., and eight medical assists with the EMS crew to: 405 W. Nevada St., 1610 Fremont St., 1401 S. 7th Ave., 512 E. Linn St., 402 N. 1st Ave., 512 E. Linn St., 1206 W. Lincoln Way, and 402 N. 10th Ave.

Wednesday

The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a call to 303 W. Nevada St., a fire call to the 10th block of West State Street and five medical assists with the EMS crew to: 102 S. 5th Ave., 407 W. Church St., 1203 S. Center St., 706 Ratcliffe Dr., and 2907 S. 6th St.

Incidents

On Wednesday, James R. Lewis, 811 Bromley St., reported the theft of a red Milwaukee reciprocating saw, a box of 1.75 inch roofing nails, 45 eight inch Morse blades, 45 six inch Morse blades and a Bostitch air gun from 712 S. Center St. Estimated value of loss was $434.

On Wednesday, Feb. 27, Jeremy Allan Kent, 612 N. 4th Ave. Apt. 211, reported the theft of a Poulan 18 inch chainsaw. Estimated value of loss was $150.

Citations

On Dec. 16, Iris L. Jovel De Hernandez, 113 N. 1st St. Apt. N, was cited for theft-fifth degree from Walmart.
