With a goal to raise $10,000 to help operations at the Senior Citizens Center, this year's Friends of the Senior Center Campaign has been officially launched.
"It goes to support the senior center and to keep us going," said Bobbi Reeder, director of the center.
The center has a wide range of activities to keep seniors active and socializing, which is important for their health.

"It keeps them going," Reeder said. "We're a place where seniors can meet old friends or make new friends."
Activities include card games, pool, sewing, shuffleboard and socialization.
The campaign has been launched through mailers seeking donations. Reeder said they have typically raised approximately $8,000 annually with the campaign.
"The community responds and we are appreciative," Reeder said. "Every little bit helps us."
Reeder said in the past the center had several fundraising events throughout the year. With the average age of visitors now at 75, it's been harder to get volunteers for the fundraisers, making this annual campaign that much more important.
Those looking to donate can send checks to the Senior Citizens Center at 20 E. State St., Marshalltown, IA, 50158 or call 641-754-5744 for more information.
Reeder said they take donations throughout the year as part of the campaign, so there is no deadline for donations.
