This year's Home and Garden Expo will offer vendors more space and flexibility.
The expo will be held 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Marshall Town Center, in the old Menard's space, April 6.
In the past, the Marshalltown Area Chamber of Commerce held the event in the common area of the mall. However, this year, the Times-Republican is organizing the show, and with the 76,000-square foot space vacant, organizers decided to make the most of it.
Desiree Tacconi, the organizer for the expo, said the T-R decided to step in to fill the void left by the chamber since its senior expo, also hosted by Marshall Town Center, has been such a success over the years.
More than 40 vendors in the home industry ranging from realtors and builders to banks and insurance companies will be on hand.
"They will have booths, and they will be able to talk with homeowners and prospective homeowners about the goods and services they have to offer," Tacconi said.

Ken Huge, manager at Marshall Town Center, said the expo seemed like a good fit. The expo brings with it good news and bad news. While having such a large vacancy in the mall is not ideal, it affords vendors a great deal of space to set up displays and do demonstrations.
"It helps freshen up this type of show," Huge said of the space. "It just leads to some flexibility."
Entertainment, speakers, door prizes and vendor demonstrations will be available.
While someone may be drawn to the expo for a particular project they are working on, they will likely benefit from other vendors present, she said.
While the chamber typically hosted the show for three days, this year's show will be just a single day. Tacconi said the chamber typically hosted the expo in February, but T-R staff decided to delay it slightly.
"We think the timing is kind of nice," Tacconi said. "Coming into spring, this is a time of year folks are really thinking about making some changes to their homes, and it's a great opportunity to get some ideas."
