Cyclone women get revenge on Oklahoma

AMES - Avenging its worst loss of the season, the Iowa State women's basketball team held off Oklahoma State 73-70 for a Senior Night victory at Hilton Coliseum Monday.

Hallie Christofferson scored 21 points and Chelsea Poppens added 18 points and eight rebounds as the Cyclones reversed their fortune from a 71-42 thumping at the hands of Oklahoma State in Stillwater Jan. 20.

Anna Prins added 15 points for the Cyclones (21-7, 12-6), which made 6-of-8 3-pointers after halftime and shot 12-for-21 in the second half to rally from a 13-point deficit.

Kendra Suttles poured in a game-high 26 points on 10-of-13 shooting, while also grabbing eight boards to lead the Cowboys (20-9, 9-9). Brittney Martin added 20 points and 11 rebounds, while Liz Donohoe scored 14.

Iowa State overcame the Cowboys' 15-3 advantage on second chance points by draining 19-of-20 free throws.

Winning seven of their last nine, the Cyclones secured the No. 2 seed for the Big 12 Tournament which starts Friday in Dallas, Tex. Iowa State will face the winner of No. 7 seed Kansas vs. No. 10 seed TCU in a quarterfinal game Saturday at 6 p.m.
