Resides: "In the suburbs." Rural Liscomb to be exact.
Family: I have been married to Chris Fuchsen four years. We have a son, Foster, 1. My parents - Debbie and Steve McCann of Marshalltown - have been married 43 years. I have four siblings, Erin (Gabe Moeller) and Michael (Sylvia) McCann of Marshalltown, Kathleen of Ames and John, deceased.
Pets: We have a pack of rescue dogs consisting of two terrier mixes, a collie, and Labrador retriever.
Hobbies and interests: When the state isn't experiencing a severe drought, my husband and I love to camp and canoe along the Iowa River. We also enjoy growing thistle, button weeds, and even some vegetables on our little acreage.
Occupations: I graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with degrees in psychology, and therapeutic recreation/youth services. Currently, I am working for three different organizations in the human service field. I am employed as a vocational trainer for the Career Development Center in Marshalltown assisting adults with disabilities with a variety of activities such as job training, social/life skills, and community integration. I am the mentor coordinator with Big Brothers Big Sisters. I have the opportunity to play 'match maker' by connecting adult volunteers with children who need a positive role model. Lastly, I am employed as a caseworker for Lutheran Services of Iowa where I help adults and children with disabilities meet their goals in a one-on-one setting.
Book: "The Giving Tree," by Shel Silverstein.
Movie: "The Sandlot," directed by Sam Weisman.
Food: I love Mexican food.
Best part of living here: Marshalltown has been good to me, but I love living in the country. In the summer, we sit on our front porch with a cold drink and watch the sunset. It is the perfect way to end the day!
Most influential persons: My family has played a major role in shaping my personality and values. They are my support system and my best friends. I have also learned a great deal from the participants at the CDC the last few years. I hope they have benefitted from our relationship as much as I have!
Advice on life: "Life moves pretty fast, if you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it." And as an owner of rescue dogs, I'm going to borrow a quote from Bob Barker: "Help control the pet population, have your pet spayed or neutered."
