She can Harley believe it

Kim Youker doesn't consider herself a lucky person when it comes to contests, saying her only claim to fame was winning a stethoscope once in the 1980s.

After what she picked up last week, she'll have to rethink the notion of being "unlucky."

Youker, a lifelong Marshalltown resident, won a 2013 Harley-Davidson Road King motorcycle, which has an estimated value of $20,000.

"I'm still kind of overwhelmed," Youker said. "I have a hard time believing it."

She won the national sweepstakes by earning entries from using her Harley Davidson Visa credit card. She got a call last month from the sweepstakes office notifying her that she was the winner.

"I was just totally shocked - I still am," Youker said. "It's a national sweepstakes."

Youker is a 1979 Marshalltown High School graduate and has worked as a paramedic at Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center since 1981.

She picked up the bike last week from the Big Barn, a Harley dealer in Des Moines.

As much as she loves the new bike, it won't be hers for long. Youker already purchased a Harley last June, so she plans to give the new bike to her husband, Roger Youker.

She started out on bikes just riding with him before she decided to start riding one for herself.

"It's fun to see the sights on a motorcycle and all the smells that go along with the ride," she said. "You can smell the woods and smell the rain."

The new bike has yet to be taken out on the roads, but the recent warm up in the weather will change that soon.

"I can't wait to get on it," she said. "It's a pretty bike."
