Marshalltown High School has found its replacement for long-time Activities Director Tim Bell.
Craig Huegel was approved by the school board at Monday's monthly meeting. Huegel is currently the athletic director at Martensdale-St. Mary's and will continue to hold down that position through June. He will officially begin duties at MHS on July 1.
"My family and I are thrilled to be joining a strong legacy of athletic and activity distinction in Marshalltown," said Huegel, who has also served as athletics director at North Polk. "I appreciate the support and kind words from the interview committee. They were very thorough, and their passion for their school was very evident. I look forward to giving my very best, along with all of our students, coaches and sponsors, to create the best possible experiences for students."
Huegel will replace Bell, who has served as activities director since 1999. Bell is retiring from coaching and from his athletic director position at the end of the school year.
"We will miss Mr. Bell and are grateful for his many years of service," MHS Principal Aiddy Phomvisay said. "Craig is a dynamic leader who will help build on the tremendous MHS history of excellence in athletics and activities. Comments from the committees noted Mr. Heugel's experience, energy, creativity, proven leadership, and vision as a notable qualities that he would bring to MHS."
One of Huegel's first orders of business will be to assist in the hiring of a new football coach, which he hopes is finalized before school lets out for the summer.
