Linda Tasler had what she called a "very famous" person in her car helping her deliver meals to homebound people in Marshalltown Wednesday.
Mayor Tommy Thompson joined Tasler as part of the meal delivery program provided by Hawkeye Valley Area Agency on Aging as part of the Mayors for Meals special day. Mayors for Meals is a national effort to promote the program.
The agency provides 100 meals a day to those who can't make it out of their homes easily.

Bill Gade, center, receives a hot lunch from Mayor Tommy Thompson, right, and volunteer Linda Tasler Wednesday. Thompson took part in the national Mayors for Meals effort to promote the home delivered meals program.
"It's a very important part of the community," Thompson said. "It's a good service, and we need to do everything we can to make sure it keeps going."
Their first stop for Tasler and Thompson Wednesday was at the home of Bill Gade. Gade said, at 94 years old, preparing meals can be difficult, so this program means a great deal to him.
Tasler is a 10-year volunteer who visits 20 homes a day delivering meals. She said often delivery people like herself are the only faces these homebound people see every day.
"I think this is a badly needed thing for the older people," Tasler said. "I hope when I get old somebody will do that for me."
As much delight as the recipients get by being able to get a home meal delivered, there is even more happiness involved in being able to bring it to them.
"The drivers and deliverers get more enjoyment than the people getting their meals," Tasler said.
Hawkeye Valley operates out of the Senior Citizens Center in Marshalltown and is always looking for volunteers to deliver meals.
