Vivian M. Stone, 92, formerly of Marshalltown, died after a brief illness on March 20, 2013, at Aldersgate Village Hospice Care in Topeka, Kan. Vivian was born April 15, 1920, in Oskaloosa, to Alice (Fryhoff) Fields and Louis Fields. She and her husband Charles moved to Topeka, Kan., about five years ago to be near her daughter and son-in-law.
She married Charles W. Stone on Oct. 26, 1940, in Oskaloosa. The couple met in high school. They lived in Oskaloosa, Monmouth, Ill., and Marshalltown before moving to Topeka.
Survivors include her husband, Charles "Charley" of nearly 73 years; her daughter, Judy K Wunder and son-in-law, Dr. Gene C. Wunder, of Topeka, Kan.; and sister-in-law, Anne (John) Fields, of Tucson, Ariz. In addition she is survived by two grandchildren: Lara A. Wunder and Sara E. (Spencer) Wunder Steward, and two step-great-grandchildren, Nick and Tyler Steward all of Florida. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
Vivian graduated from Oskaloosa High School in 1938. She was employed in banking at Security Bank and Trust in Marshalltown until she retired in 1980. She and her husband enjoyed traveling and visited all states except Alaska. Vivian was an avid golfer and she and Charles played into their mid 80s. Vivian loved to read and often read three or four books a week.
Vivian was preceded in death by her parents; her step-father, Ben Sedrel; a sister Mildred (Harry) Frey; brothers: Dwight (Golda), Wayne (Marge), and John (Anne) Fields. She was cremated and internment will be at Riverside Cemetery, Marshalltown, at a later date.
