Man flees police, injures officer

Police picked up a local man on a drug possession warrant Friday.

Raymond Shogren, 30, of Marshalltown, allegedly fled police when they spotted him on the 500 block of East Main Street, said Capt. Mike Hanken, with the Marshalltown Police Department.

During a foot chase, the responding officer tackled Shogren, resulting in him injuring his finger, Hanken said. A search of Shogren revealed him to have a user amount of methamphetamine and a pipe for smoking it.

Police charged Shogren with possession of meth, enhanced to a Class D felony due to two prior convictions, possession of drug paraphernalia, a simple misdemeanor, and interference with official acts resulting in bodily harm, an aggravated misdemeanor.

The officer did not need medical attention.

Man swings knife at ex-girlfriend

A Marshalltown man faces assault and child endangerment charges for allegedly brandishing a knife at his ex-girlfriend and two teenagers in front of his sons Saturday morning.

Mabil Ruei, 32, allegedly got upset that his ex-girlfriend began seeing someone else and went over to her Marshalltown home with the couple's two sons, said Capt. Mike Hanken, with the Marshalltown Police Department.

The ex-girlfriend has a no-contact order on Ruei. Two other teens, ages 15 and 16, were present when Ruei began swinging the gold folding knife at them, Hanken said. The 15-year-old tried to restrain Ruei, and Ruei suffered minor injuries as a result. Emergency room staff at Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center treated and released Ruei, and police transported him to the Marshall County Jail.

Police charged Ruei with felony domestic assault, a Class D felony enhanced because of prior convictions, two counts of aggravated assault, and two counts of child endangerment, all aggravated misdemeanors, and violation of a no-contact order, a simple misdemeanor.
