Juvenile charged with burglary, attempted burglary

Police arrested a 15-year-old boy Tuesday night for allegedly breaking into a car and attempting to enter an occupied home.

The boy was spotted a few blocks from his home in the 200 block of South Fourth Avenue when officers picked him up for curfew violation, said Lt. Ronald Ohrt, with the Marshalltown Police Department.

The juvenile was charged with third-degree burglary, an aggravated misdemeanor, for breaking into a car a few houses down from his home, and attempted second-degree burglary, a Class D felony, for pushing in a window of a home in the same area, Ohrt said.

Nothing of value was stolen. Police also charged the teen with possession of alcohol underage, a simple misdemeanor. His blood alcohol content was .038 at the time of his arrest, according to the police report.

Police released the boy to juvenile detention.

Jorge Oscar Sanchez Vazquez, 107 1/2 W. Church St., made an initial appearance on a operation without registration charge and a driving under suspension charge. He pleaded guilty to both charges. On the operation without registration charge the fine was $50 with a $17.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $127.50, due immediately. The fine on the driving under suspension charge was $250 with a $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $397.50, due immediately. The court condemned the bond and applied it to the payment of fines with the remainder, if any, to be returned to the payee.

Devin Thul, address unknown, made an initial appearance on a public intoxication charge, a public urination charge and a possession of a controlled substance charge. All charges will be kept together and a preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. on April 15. Thul was released on his own recognizance. The court ordered that he obtain a substance abuse evaluation and submit the results to the court within 60 days of today's date.

Patricia Ann Morales, address unknown, pleaded guilty to a speeding charge, an improper use of registration charge and a failure to secure a child charge. On the speeding charge the fine was $150 with a $52.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $262.50, due immediately. The fine on the improper use of registration charge was $200 with a $70 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $330, due immediately. On the failure to secure a child charge the fine was $100 with a $35 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $195, due immediately.

Sean Switzer, address unknown, made an initial appearance on a parole violation charge. The court appointed Merrill Swartz to represent him this case. The parole revocation hearing will be scheduled by his parole officer as his calendar permits. No bond was allowed in this case pending the hearing.

Thaddeus Graves, address unknown, made an initial appearance on a violation of pre-trial release charge and a failure to appear for an arraignment hearing both regarding a burglary-third degree charge. Darrell Meyer was appointed to handle these cases. The arraignment hearing is rescheduled for 1 p.m. on April 4. Bond is set at $5,000 cash only. Graves was also seen on a failure to appear for a plea proceeding on a possession of a controlled substance charge. Jennifer Meyer will represent him on this matter before the court. The plea proceeding will be handled at the same time 1 p.m. on April 4 as the arraignment. Bond is set at $1,000 cash or surety.

Tony Adam Harris, 411 S. 3rd St., made an initial appearance on a failure to appear for a scheduling hearing charge on a violation of probation charge and a driving while barred-habitual offender charge. A scheduling hearing for both charges was set for 1 p.m. on Tuesday. The public defender's office was appointed to handle his cases. Bond is set at $5,000 cash or surety on one and $2,000 cash only on the other.

Raymond Shogren, address unknown, made an initial appearance on a failure to appear at a hearing charge, an interference with official acts charge, a possession of a Schedule II controlled substance-enhanced charge, a theft-fifth degree charge and a possession of drug paraphernalia charge. The public defender's office was appointed to handle his cases. The preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. on April 3. Bond is set at $5,000 cash. If Shogren should make bond he is then released through the Department of Correctional Services and is to report to them.

Brady James Black, 211 N. 10th St., made an initial appearance on a possession of alcohol under the legal age charge. He pleaded guilty and was fined $200 with a $70 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $330, due immediately.

Leiah Nichole Luense, 408 W. State St., made an initial appearance on a possession of alcohol under legal age charge. She pleaded guilty and was fined $200 with a $70 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $330, due immediately.

Pierce Jaelen Kelly, 207 Koeper Dr., made an initial appearance on a possession of alcohol under legal age charge and a interference with official acts charge. He pleaded guilty to both charges and was fined $450 with a $157.50 surcharge and $120 in court costs for a total of $727.50, due immediately.

Jamal Gatali, 3700 S. Center St., made an initial appearance on a possession of alcohol under legal age charge. He pleaded guilty to the charge and was fined $200 with a $70 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $330, due immediately.

On Monday, an employee with K-Mart, 1720 S. Center St., reported the theft of miscellaneous merchandise in the amount of $138.11.

On Tuesday, a male juvenile from Marshalltown was cited for curfew violation, burglary-third degree-vehicle, attempted burglary-second degree and possession of alcohol under legal age.

Arrests
