‘Marshalltown Reads Poetry’ event April 4

March 31, 2013
Times-Republican

Celebrate National Poetry Month in a new way this year with the Marshalltown Public Library.

The library will be recording Marshalltown residents reading their favorite poems to create a listening station for the month of April.

All ages are invited to a recording session from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Thursday in the library's Community Meeting Room. Anyone unable to attend the recording session may contact Stacey McKim at the library to set up an individual recording time.

Once the recordings are done, visitors to the library will be invited to have a seat, put on some headphones, and hear Marshalltown's favorite poems.

"It can be easy to forget about reading poetry or to be intimidated by it," said McKim. "I hope this will be a fun, easy way for people to add some more poetry into their lives."

National Poetry Month was instituted in 1996 with the goal of introducing more Americans to the pleasures of reading poetry.
