PELLA - The Bobcats ended a long scoreless streak Tuesday when they notched three goals in a road win over Pella Christian.
Morgan Gardalen put in two goals and Lexi Vaughn scored the third as the Marshalltown girls' soccer team won its opener 3-0 over the Eagles.
"I am very proud of how the team competed," MHS coach Allie Osmundson said. "We possessed the ball well and controlled the game."
The Bobcats ended the 2012 season with 11 straight scoreless games and only scored 15 goals in 18 matches.
"It was a good team win with every player contributing positive minutes," Osmundson said. "The win was a great way to start the season and we hope to build off tonight at the tournament on Saturday."
Gardalen's first goal came in the fifth minute and then Vaughn put the Bobcats up 2-0 with a goal at the 30-minute mark. Gardalen's final goal came early in the second half to put the match away.
Amanda Hughes and Lupita Magana both had a save in goal for MHS.
Marshalltown will next play at the Southeast Polk Invite on Saturday. The Bobcats play Indianola at 10:30 a.m. at the high school. The 'Cats also face Des Moines East at 1:30 p.m. and DM North at 4:30 p.m., both at the Spring Creek Soccer Complex.
