Mary Catherine Hanfeld-Berg, 95, of Marshalltown, IA passed away Thursday, March 28, 2013, at the Iowa River Hospice House, in Marshalltown. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 6, 2013, at the Main St. Chapel of the Anderson Funeral Homes. Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral. Mary was born November 24, 1917 to Bernard J. and Theresa R. (Lemker) Hanfeld, in Haverhill, IA. She lived on a farm near Haverhill as a youth, then moved to Marshalltown. She is a graduate of Marshalltown High School. Mary was employed at the Times Republican Newspaper for 15 years in the circulation department. She then was employed with the Iowa Veterans Home for 30 years as an administrative assistant to the commandant. She retired in 1983. Mary was united in marriage to Kenneth Berg on October 4, 1997 in Marshalltown. He died October 1, 2009. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, in Marshalltown and the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Mary was also an active member of the Council of Catholic Women. She enjoyed gardening.

Mary will be missed by her niece, Judy (Larry) Curson of Marshalltown, nephew, Gary (Dee) Lynk of Marshalltown, two great nieces; Tracy (Todd) Asa, Katy Lynk, great nephew, Mike (Jodi) Curson, great great niece, Alli Curson, and three great great nephews; Tyler Asa, Tanner Asa, and Drew Curson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth, two sisters; Henrietta Steinmayer, Emma Lynk, and a brother, Lawerence.
