Learning her high school subjects while also trying to learn the English language can be tough, but Iang Bor has proved ready for the challenge.

The 19-year-old native of Mayanmar (Burma) said it can be hard sometimes but she keeps at it.

"If I get a good education, I can help my family in the future," Bor said.

Iang Bor is pictured in chemistry class at Marshalltown High School last week. She is a native of Myanmar (Burma).

Bor has been in Marshalltown for two years and prior to that lived in Dallas, Malaysia and Burma. Her chemistry teacher, Mike Loupee, is amazed with how well she has adjusted to life as a high school student in America.

"She works very hard at learning English and going to school," Loupee said. "I've been impressed with her work ethic. She is polite and respectful and always has a positive attitude."
