Elsie (Franklin) Minear, 92, of New Providence, IA passed away Friday, April 12, 2013, at Ellsworth Municipal Hospital in Iowa Falls, IA. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, April 15, 2013, at Honey Creek - New Providence Friends Church, in New Providence, IA. Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Sunday, April 14, 2013 at the Honey Creek - New Providence Friends Church. Memorials may be directed to USFW of the HC-NP Friends Church or to the Mission Aviation Fellowship. The Anderson Funeral Homes in Marshalltown, IA has been entrusted with the arrangements.
Elsie was born on February 24, 1921 to Ralph and Nellie (Hall) Franklin in Marshalltown. Elsie graduated from Marshalltown High School with the Class of 1939. She had two years of nurses training at the Deaconess Hospital in Marshalltown. Elsie married Harold Minear on September 14, 1941; and, though this marriage ended in divorce in 1990, she had seven children from this union. Elsie was a member of the Honey Creek New Providence Friends Church where she was active in a variety of ministries over the years: teaching Sunday School; participation in the United Society of Friends Women; sending out cards for various occasions on behalf of the church. She also worked for 10 years at the Quakerdale Home for Children and for four years at "Connie's Kitchen" local restaurant in New Providence.
Elsie will be missed by seven children; Lance (Sylvis) Minear of Midlothian, Virginia, Lila Minear of New Providence, Lynn Kieler of Iowa City, IA, Hal (Beckie) Minear of Mason City, IA, Chris (Merv) Swenson of Maxwell, IA, Mark (Karla) Minear of Marshalltown, and Ellen (Jeff) Hinrichs of Zearing, IA, seventeen grandchildren, and nineteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Michael Peck, and a sister Della Raaz.
