Richard K. Clay, 85, of Cedar Rapids died Saturday April 20, 2013 at his home after a brief illness. There will be no visitation. Private services and inurnment in the Prairieview Cemetery in Gilman, Iowa at a later date. Iowa Cremation is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include a son Ron and grandson Eric both of Cedar Rapids; two sisters Jean Simpson of Gilman, Donna Lawrence of Marshalltown; and two brothers Fritz of Gilman and Charles of Chariton. He was preceded in death by his wife, a son Kim, and a sister Doris Walker.
Richard was born on August 28, 1927 in Gilman the son of Leslie and Marie Sawyer Clay. He married LaVonne Doane on April 6, 1947 in Gilman. LaVonne passed away in 1999.
Richard was a welder at Lennox Industries for over 45 years, retiring in 1991. He proudly served in the Navy during WWII and enjoyed the time spent with his friends and family.
