NEWTON - A single goal was enough to beat the Marshalltown girls' soccer team on Monday as Class 2A No. 15 Newton remained undefeated with a 1-0 win at H.A. Lynn Field.

It was the first time the Bobcats were shut out this season after suffering 11 straight shutouts to end 2012.

"We played better in the second half, but we need to keep working hard so that we can put a complete game together," MHS coach Allie Osmundson said.

The MHS junior varsity lost 5-0, while the freshmen squad dropped a 2-0 decision.

MHS returns to the pitch Thursday when it travels to Fort Dodge to take on the Dodgers at 7 p.m.
