AMES - Led by a medalist performance from Ashley Harris, the Marshalltown girls golf team edged Ames 219-223 at Veenker Memorial Golf Course Thursday.

Finishing 11 strokes ahead of the competition, Harris fired a 7-over-par 43 to guide the Bobcats (1-1, 1-0) to their first dual win of the season.

"Ashley played a great round of golf on one of the tougher courses we'll play all year," MHS coach Lucas Johnson said. "Veenker is a course that can humble you in a hurry and I was proud of our girls for keeping their composure and not letting a bad hole derail their entire round."

Katie Lynch and Kallie Davis each carded a 56, while Niccole Wolken's 64 completed Marshalltown's team score.

Ames' Mikayla Sullivan turned in a 54 for runner-up honors. Christel Bramble and Emily Marrs each shot a 55 for the Little Cyclones.

Natalie Kueny paced the Bobcats' JV with a 56.

Marshalltown hosts Fort Dodge today at American Legion Golf Course. Tee-off starts at 3:30 p.m.
