Donna M. Lawrence, 95, of Marshalltown, died Friday, April 26, 2013, at Villa Del Sol Nursing Home, in Marshalltown while under the care of Iowa River Hospice. Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, May 1, 2013, at the First United Methodist Church, in Marshalltown. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the services at the church. Memorials may be directed to either the Marshalltown First United Methodist Church or the Gilman First United Methodist Church. Donna was born Sept. 9, 1917, to Leslie L. and Marie (Sawyer) Clay on a farm between Gilman and Newburg, the first born of two sisters and three brothers. She attended country schools through 7th grade and graduated from Gilman Consolidated Schools in 1934 at the age of 16.
Donna married Lester E. Lawrence on March 12, 1936. They had four children: Marilyn (Ralph) Wentzien, David (Jan) Lawrence, Diane Smith and Dana Lawrence.
Donna and Lester were charter members of the Central Iowa Ornithologist Club and active in ARC and Pleasant Hill School where Dana attended. She was a member of the First United Church in Marshalltown serving as wedding coordinator for seven years and active in her church circle and Tomorrow Club. She was a charter member of the Lioness club, a member of TTT, Garden Club and OA.
Survivors include her two daughters; one daughter-in-law Jan (David) Lawrence; a sister Jean Simpson; two brothers Charles Clay and Leslie Clay; five grandchildren; two great grandchildren; four step grandchildren and two step great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Lester; sons David and Dana; grandson Duane Delfs; a sister, Doris Walker; a brother, Richard Clay and her parents.
