The Marshalltown School Board held a special meeting Monday to move forward with two building projects.
The projects include the Marshalltown High School classroom remodeling for the Project Lead the Way curriculum and the re-roofing of the Roundhouse.
Both were let out to bid Monday.
The PLTW remodeling has an estimated construction cost of $355,000 to make classrooms ready for the biomedical sciences and engineering classes. The original bid receipt date of May 29 was moved up by the board to May 23 so the project does not stretch too far into next fall.
"I would just like a little bit of breathing room," said board member Jennifer Wilson.
The board also had a recent project come in over bid, so it wanted more time to make a decision if these bids came in higher than expected.
One of the PLTW rooms will be located in the corner of the current media center with one taking over the spot of the Academic Success Center across from the main office at the high school. The board has planned a tentative special meeting for noon May 24 to possibly accept bids on the project.
The Roundhouse re-roofing project will also be a summer project and will set up the facility for the major renovations expected to occur next year.
"This is to basically re-roof the dome," said Board President Sherm Welker.
This first phase has an estimated cost of $475,000. The next regular meeting of the school board will be at 5 p.m. Monday.
