Shown is a memorial from Darwin L. Judge Park in Marshalltown, in honor of his ultimate sacrifice in the defense of freedom. Monday was the 38th anniversary of his death at Tan Son Nhut Airport, Vietnam. He was the 19-year old son of the late Henry and Ida Judge of Marshalltown. Darwin and fellow Marine Cpl. Charles McMahon of Woburn, Mass., were two of the last Americans to lose their lives in Vietnam during a rocket attack on the airbase. They were killed just hours before the evacuation of Saigon, which ended April 30, 1975, and marks the official end of the Vietnam War. Another memorial to Darwin is inside Marshalltown High School, near the main entrance. Darwin, and the 35th anniversary of the Fall of Saigon, were honored at an event April 29, 2010 at the Historical Society of Marshall County museum. Ken Locke, a personal friend of Darwin, and Ida were present. Darwin is buried in Rose Hill cemetery.
