Local man charged with assaulting grandfather
A local man faces felony assault charges after allegedly punching his grandfather, causing him to fall to the concrete and suffer a head wound that required paramedics to life flight him to Des Moines for further treatment.
Police arrested Keaton Thorn, 19, Marshalltown, Tuesday and charged him with felony assault causing serious injury, a Class D felony, and serious domestic abuse, a serious misdemeanor, said Capt. Brian Batterson, with the Marshalltown Police Department.
According to the police report, witnesses saw Thorn punch the victim in the head, sending him to the ground, near Thorn's home on the 200 block of Rainbow Drive. The victim was transported to Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center and later flown to an unnamed hospital in Des Moines.
The charges could be amended depending on the victim's condition, which Batterson said police were still waiting on as of Wednesday afternoon.
Thorn made his initial appearance in court Wednesday where the court issued a no contact order for the victim. Thorne is being held on $5,000 cash bond. His preliminary hearing is set for May 10.

On Sunday, Corey Alan Hilson, address unknown, was arrested for possession of contraband, possession of a Schedule II controlled substance-cocaine and violation of a no-contact order.
On Wednesday, Michael James Hoffpauir, 504 W. Church St., was arrested for possession of a Schedule II controlled substance and harboring a runaway.
On Tuesday, Keaton Douglas Thorn, 202 Rainbow Dr., was arrested for assault causing serious injury and serious domestic abuse assault.

On Friday, a car driven by Jack Duane Davis, of Fort Dodge, was westbound on Highway 30 when it struck a deer that entered the roadway causing it to go out of control and end up in the north ditch with heavy front end damage. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Davis car was estimated at $9,000.
On April 25, a car driven by Ree Meh, 112 N. 1st Ave. Apt. #2, was stopped at the northbound stop sign where the Marshalltown High School parking lot meets South Third Avenue when it proceeded forward and collided with a vehicle driven by Christian Jorge Guido, 607 W. Nevada St., which was southbound on South Third Avenue on the curve to go eastward. No injuries were reported. Meh was cited for failure to obey a yield sign and yield right of way. Damage to the Meh car was estimated at $4,000 while the Guido vehicle received an estimated $3,000 in damage.
On Tuesday, a minivan driven by Paulette Rani Mann, 211 S. 6th Ave., was westbound on West Boone Street when it failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection with South Third Street and entered the intersection where it collided with a pickup truck driven by Craig Michael Huseboe, 2706 Nelson Rd., that was traveling south on Third Street which caused it to spin around and collided with a vehicle driven by Latrice Lashay Daniel-McMullen, of Waterloo, which was headed north on Third Street. Mann was transported to Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center with possible injuries. Mann was cited for failure to obey a stop sign and yield the right of way. Damage to the Mann minivan was estimated at $8,500 while the Huseboe pickup received an estimated $5,000 in damage and the Daniel-McMullen vehicle an estimated $3,000 in damage.
On Tuesday, a citizen reported spray paint damage to the passenger side of a Mazda Protege while parked in front of 125 S. 11th St. Estimated value of damage was $150.

The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to two fire calls to 710 1/2 E. State St., and 122 W. Main St., and nine medical assists with the EMS crew to: 805 E. Main St., 108 W. Nevada St., 503 Woodland St., 205 N. 5th Ave., 101 NewCastle Rd., 1308 E. Madison St., 211 W. Church St., 106 Anson Circle, and 101 NewCastle Rd.
The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a fire call at 309 N. 13th Ave., and seven medical assists with the EMS crew to: 209 N. 1st Ave., 402 N. 10th Ave., 3202 S. 12th St., 410 Nicholas Dr., 29 W. Main St., 1401 S. 1st St., and 2600 240th St.
The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to three fire calls to: 1508 Greenfield Dr., 706 W. Church St., and 807 S. 9th Ave., and six medical assists with the EMS crew to: 302 Melody Lane, 3202 S. 12th St., 910 E. Olive St., 2510 S. 6th St., 1308 E. Olive St., and 1724 S. Center St.
The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to two fire calls to 112 College Dr., and 304 Jerome St., and nine medical assists with the EMS crew to: 608 E. Olive St., 206 S. 11th St., South Third Avenue, 9 S. 6th St., 1211 W. State St., South Seventh Street, 304 W. South St., and 202 N. 2nd St.

On Monday, Robert Anthony Graves, 10 N. 11th St., was arrested for driving while barred.
On Sunday, Spencer Ray Dieleman, of Albion, was arrested on a warrant charging him with attempted burglary-third degree.
On Saturday, Ricky Ray Elias Benson, of Montour, was arrested for possession of a Schedule I controlled substance-marijuana.
