Registrations are now being accepted for the fourth annual Cherish The Child Walk and Service of Remembrance hosted by Abels & French-Hand Funeral Homes of Grundy and Hardin counties.
This special event is held each year to honor the memory of children who have died at any age, miscarriage through adulthood. The walk is a symbolic walk of less than one mile. The service of remembrance features parent, grandparent and sibling speakers, as well as special music and other commemorative activities.
Karen Shipley of the Marshalltown Chapter of Compassionate Friends will be one of the speakers for this year's service. The event will also include a moment for remembering Lyric Cook and Elizabeth Collins and the victims of the Sandy Hook School shooting.
The 2013 Cherish the Child Event will be held on May 23 at Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home, 509 Fourth St., Grundy Center. In case of inclement weather the event will move to Bethany Presbyterian Church, 315 G Ave., Grundy Center (across from the funeral home). Check-in the evening of the walk will be held from 5:15 to 5:55 p.m. The walk begins at 6 p.m. Light refreshments will be served following the walk. Participants are asked to bring their own lawn chairs for the Service of Remembrance, if able. Pre-registration is required. Please register by calling Susan Keller at 319-345-2238 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Cherish the Child Event is open to the public. All are welcome.
