SPORTS SHORTS: Fleming fifth, North Tama girls second

FAIRBANK - Shannon Fleming of GMG placed fifth overall at the Iowa Star Conference girls' golf tournament Tuesday at Wapsie Ridge Golf Course.

Fleming shot a 113 for all-conference honors, but the Wolverines did not field a full team. Olivia Barritt carded a 125 and Summer Langenbau shot 128 for GMG.

Team champion Clarksville (444) was led by overall medalist Arika Rinnels, who shot 96. North Tama was second (465) with a 111 from Jayde Vogeler leading the way. Mallory Espenscheid shot 117, Haley Lunde had 118 and Kodi Hillman carded 119 to finish out the Redhawks' score.

Colo-NESCO's girls finished sixth with a 544 team total, led by a 117 from McKenna Farren.

AGWSR leads area teams at A-P meet

PARKERSBURG - Clay Meinders captured the shot put title by more than 4 feet and the AGWSR boys track team wrapped up third out of 12 squads at the Falcon Invitational Monday.

Meinders' heave of 51 feet, 7 inches in the shot put catapulted the Cougars to 88.5 points, while Dike-New Hartford (107) outscored Wapsie Valley by nine for the team title.

AGWSR's other winning effort came in the 4x400, which clocked 3 minutes, 38.53 seconds. Relay member names were not available.

Nick Pieters added silver in the long jump with a leap of 20 feet, 1 1/2 inches. Josh Bagley's 16.49 earned bronze in the 110 hurdles, while Kyle Lippert followed suit in the discus (135-02).

Gladbrook-Reinbeck totaled 46.5 points to edge East Marshall (45) and West Marshall (42.5) for eighth, while Grundy Center (33.5) and BCLUW (27) rounded out the field.

Jacob Peters provided the Rebels' lone gold in the long jump (20-4 1/2, while Zach Pierce and Wyatt Swanson got third in the shot put (46-6) and 800 (2:05.34) respectively.

Mitch Berry led East Marshall with a runner-up outing in the 200 clocking 23.30, while also teaming with Walker Steward, Zach Rubenbauer and Ben Terrones on the second place distance medley (3:43.10).

West Marshall's Nathan Bradley came through the 3,200 in 10:43.43 for third, while the Trojans' 4x100 (46.30) and 4x200 (1:35.55) units also grabbed bronze.

Brock Rohler led Grundy Center with a third place time of 11.41 in the 100 dash, while BCLUW's Cole Silver provided the Comets' top finish with third in the 1,600 (4:52.19). BCLUW also grabbed third in the 4x800 (8:37.43).

Rebel girls outlast Falcons, 3-2

REINBECK - The Class 1A No. 13 Gladbrook-Reinbeck girls' soccer team defeated Aplington-Parkersburg by a 3-2 score on Monday.

Nicole Adair had two goals while Emily Snider had a goal and two assists for the Rebels (4-2), who play Thursday at Decorah. Harper Wells scored twice for the Falcons (3-3).

Hudson wins ranked battle over Rebels

HUDSON - Class 2A No. 6 Hudson doubled up on the 1A No. 9-ranked Gladbrook-Reinbeck boys' soccer squad, winning 4-2 on Monday night.

Shane Drinovsky scored twice for the Pirates (9-2), who won their fifth straight. Gladbrook-Reinbeck (7-4) hosts Aplington-Parkersburg on Friday.
