The Cartwright Pavilion farmers market opened for the season on Wednesday. Nine vendors were present with eggs, asparagus, tomatoes, cucumbers, green onions, hanging baskets and other plants, cut flowers, bread, rolls, pies, cakes, jelly, noodles, nuts and some crafts. Honey and more vegetables will be available soon.
Clair Long, longtime sweet corn provider at the market, said his fruit trees are loaded with blossoms and he has two patches of sweet corn up and two more yet to emerge. He's hoping for a good growing season.
The market is located at 108 N. Second Ave., and is open from 4 to 6 p.m. on Wednesdays and from 8 to 11 a.m. on Saturdays until the end of October. For more information contact Margaret Hala at 641-752-2981.
