Dorothy "Dude" Cagwin, 85, passed away Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at her home in Marshalltown. Memorial services will be 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at First United Methodist Church, in Marshalltown. Private inurnment will be in Riverside Cemetery, in Marshalltown. Dorothy was born June 28, 1927 to Jim and Frances (Bassett) Douglass in Marshalltown, IA. She graduated form Marshalltown High School in 1945 where she was a cheerleader. She received her AA degree from Stephens College in Columbia, MO in 1947 and then transferred to UCLA majoring in Drama and pledging Delta Delta Delta. Dorothy was united in marriage to Kenneth Cagwin in 1948 moving back to Marshalltown in 1949 where they lovingly raised 5 children. During her active life she was a member of the Assistance League, PTA and Izaak Walton League. She was very active in the Community Theater performing in many productions. The family moved back to "Dude's Ranch" in 1968 so she could be near her beloved horses. Dude loved her family dearly. She was an avid reader and great equestrian giving many riding lessons. She had a great love for the outdoors and all creatures great and small.
Dorothy will be missed by her husband, Kenny and children, Doug (Kathy) Cagwin of St. Petersburg, FL, Mark (Teresa) Cagwin of Sandpoint, ID, Dawn (Jon) Muller of Marshalltown, IA, Mel Cagwin of Marshalltown, Iowa and Jim (Roxanne) Cagwin of Ottumwa, Iowa; 8 grandsons, Jarrod Cagwin, Derek Billman, Tyler (Candice), Trevor and Trent Muller, Todd and Brett Cagwin, Keenan Hendershot, Ethan Cagwin and great-granddaughter, RyLee Muller. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Vera.
