Police arrested a Marshalltown woman on two felony abuse charges last week.
The Department of Human Services had been investigating numerous allegations that Angela Hamrick, 32, Marshalltown, had been abusing her 4-year-old stepson, said Capt. Mike Hanken, with the Marshalltown Police Department.
The MPD joined the investigation May 6 and eventually arrested Hamrick May 15, charging her with neglect of a dependent person and child endangerment with injuries, both Class C felonies.
Hanken said the boy had marks on his head and scratches on his face and neck. Staff at the Child Protection Center in Hiawatha examined the boy.
Hamrick came into the police department to speak with police last week, and officers subsequently arrested her, Hanken said.
A Class C felony is punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a $1,000 to $10,000 fine.
Hamrick appeared in court Tuesday and posted her $10,000 bond.
