Man bites girlfriend's finger, gets aggravated assault charge

A dispute between a local man and his girlfriend landed the man aggravated assault charges Thursday.

Sabir Mamor, 33, allegedly punched his girlfriend in the face and bit a 1/2 inch into her finger at the couple's Main Street apartment Tuesday, causing her to go to the hospital for treatment, said Capt. Mike Hanken, with the Marshalltown Police Department.

Mamor turned himself into the courthouse Thursday. Police issued a warrant for his arrest following the victim's testimony after staff at Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center treated her injuries, Hanken said.

Police charged Mamor with aggravated domestic assault, an aggravated misdemeanor.

Mamor appeared in court Thursday where the judge appointed a public defender and issued a no contact order on the victim. His bond is set at $2,000, and his preliminary hearing is set for May 31.

The public defender's office was appointed to handle her cases. The probation revocation hearing is set for 1:30 p.m. June 14 and the trial for the possession of drug paraphernalia is set for the same time. Bond is set at $5,000 cash only.

Carolyn Joyce Porter, 707 S. Seventh Ave., made an initial appearance on a theft-fourth degree charge and a possession of drug paraphernalia charge. The public defender's office was appointed to handle her cases. The preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. June 10. Porter was released on her own recognizance.

Jerry Juan Oden Jr., 308 Woodbury St., made an initial appearance on a open container charge and a driving while barred-habitual offender charge. The public defender's office was appointed to handle his cases. The preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. June 7.

Gavin Lee Slifer, address unknown, made an initial appearance on a operating while intoxicated-first offense charge, a failure to maintain control charge and a striking fixtures charge. Jesse Angel Estrada, 108 1/2 S. Third St., made an initial appearance on a contempt of court charge. The public defender's office was appointed to handle his case. The scheduling hearing was set for 1 p.m. May 20. Bond was set at $1,000 cash or surety.

Lolita Lyna Good, 305 N. 15th Ave., made an initial appearance on a domestic assault charge. The preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. June 7. Good was released on her own recognizance. A no-contact order was issued for the protected party.

Dustin Robert Gould, of Rhodes, made an initial appearance on a possession of a Schedule I controlled substance charge, a possession of a Schedule II controlled substance charge and a possession of prescription drugs without a prescription charge. The public defender's office was appointed to handle his cases. The preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. June 10.

Gilbert Griego, 610 E. Linn St., made an initial appearance on a open container charge. He pleaded guilty and was fined $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75, due within 30 days of today's date.

Jose Maria Alvarez, 316 N. 12th Ave., made an initial appearance on a dog at large charge. He pleaded guilty and was fined $25 with a $8.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $93.75 due within 30 days of today's date.

Accidents

On Sunday, a pickup driven by Justin Robert Caputo, of Union, was eastbound on 190th Street during a rainstorm and approaching the T-intersection with Underwood Avenue. The driver misjudged the distance to the intersection and when he attempted to turn right the vehicle entered the east ditch and rolled onto its side. Caputo received minor lacerations, but refused treatment. Damage to the Caputo pickup was estimated at $4,000.

On Sunday, a car driven by Jack William Smith, of Gilman, was westbound on Highway 30 when it struck a deer that entered the traveled portion of the roadway. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Smith car was estimated at $2,000.
