BONDURANT - Unearned runs and free passes proved to be the difference as the Marshalltown sophomore baseball team fell 10-6 and 4-3 in Tuesday's season openers at Bondurant-Farrar.
The Bobcats (0-2) committed eight errors and issued 10 walks in the twinbill. In the opener, four Bondurant-Farrar runs came unearned to starting pitcher Michael Schrempf, who struck out two and walked three in the loss. Brandin Chaloupek had two of the Bobcats' seven hits, while Colton Hanke and Kyler Ladehoff both had two RBIs. Schrempf scored twice.
After scoring in the top of the fifth inning to tie the second game at 3-all, Marshalltown surrendered the Bluejays' game-winning run in the bottom half. The leadoff batter walked on four pitches and later scored on a sacrifice fly.
Schrempf had an RBI double to lead the MHS offense, which had five hits to Bondurant-Farrar's two. Grant Thimesch, Reggie Johannes, Hanke and Chaloupek each had a single. Jordan Smith took the loss on the mound.
Principal Charity Classic announces app
DES MOINES - The Principal Charity Classic has a new home this year and on Thursday announced its new mobile application designed to help spectators navigate the new course.
The 2013 event will be played this year at the Wakonda Club in Des Moines, and there is a new, free app available that pinpoints a user's location for easy navigation.
"We are excited about moving to our new home this year, and we want to make the transition as seamless as possible," said Mary O'Keefe, chair of the Principal Charity Classic board. "The mobile app was designed to make it easy for everyone to find their way around the new course, and it's also a great way for spectators and volunteers to stay up-to-date with current scores, tee times and event schedules."
The Principal Charity Classic, an annual Champions Tour event, runs May 28 through June 2.
