Just in time for the end of the school year, the Marshalltown Family Aquatic Center is set to open its doors late next week.

Chad Weir, Marshalltown Parks and Recreation superintendent, said the aquatic center will open to the public May 31, and all hours will remain the same.

The hours are noon to 7:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and noon to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, he said.

The Marshalltown Family Aquatic Center, shown here last summer, will open to the public next Friday, May 31. Last summer was one of the best years for the aquatic center because of the extreme heat and lack of precipitation.

After hot temperatures last summer and little precipitation, Weir said the aquatic center had one of its best years since first opening.

"We had one of our best summers ever last year because of the heat," he said. "We had some mechanical problems, but last year was a good year for us."

Proper swimsuit apparel is required, which means no cutoff shirts or underwear are allowed, but T-shirts may be worn at the discretion of the lifeguards. Men must also have a liner in their swim trunks, Weir said.
