Catherine L. Fonken, 82, of Marshalltown, died Saturday, June 1, 2013, at the Iowa River Hospice House in Marshalltown. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 5, 2013, at Elim Lutheran Church in Marshalltown. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 4, 2013, at the Main Street Chapel of the Anderson Funeral Homes in Marshalltown. Catherine was born July 18, 1930, in Marshalltown to Louis Martin and Ellen Marie Thompson. She was united in marriage to Arthur Clyde Fonken on June 26, 1960, at Friends Church in Marshalltown. He preceded her in death May 27, 1999. Catherine was a homemaker who enjoyed reading and watching Wheel of Fortune and Christian television shows. She also volunteered at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown and at her church, Elim Lutheran Church in Marshalltown.
She will be missed by her beloved dog, Sammy Thompson; her sister, Patricia A. Thompson of Marshalltown; her sister-in-law, Kathy Fonken, of Des Moines; her nieces and nephews: Terry Thompson, Pam Thompson, Sheila Kelsey, Rick Thompson, Bobbi Ward, Connie Thompson, Becky Danley, Sherry Williams, Marlene Thompson, Cindy Kelsey, Karen Silverio and Michael Fonken.
In addition to her husband, Arthur, she was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters: Louise Levora and Lillian Thompson and her brothers and sisters-in-law: Lawrence and Twila Thompson and Irving and Fern Thompson.
