Man accused of assaulting girlfriend in front of couple's child

A local man allegedly tried to strangle his girlfriend in front of the couple's 1-year-old daughter Saturday night.

Capt. Mike Hanken, with the Marshalltown Police Department, said Arturo Miranda, 22, of Marshalltown, threw the woman to the ground and held her down by her throat at their home on the 700 block of Union Street, threatening to kill her.

Police arrested Miranda shortly after the woman was able to escape and report the assault, Hanken said. The victim did not seek medical attention.

Police charged Miranda with domestic assault, attempted strangulation, a Class D felony; child endangerment without injury, an aggravated misdemeanor; and first-degree harassment, an aggravated misdemeanor.

Reports of the arrest were made available Monday.

On April 22, Jose Alberto Valdovinos, 410 N. 15th Ave., was arrested for burglary-third degree.

On May 30, Leopoldo Salvador Reyes, 409 N. 15th Ave., was arrested for driving while barred-habitual offender.

On May 30, Raymundo Flores, 502 N. 12th Ave. Apt. #11, was arrested for possession of alcohol under legal age limit.

On May 30, Gabriel Cherveny, 709 E. State St., was arrested for possession of a Schedule I controlled substance-marijuana.

On May 30, Tera Lynn Kibbee, 313 N. Fourth Ave., was arrested for serious domestic assault.

On May 29, Nick Eugene Temple, of Cedar Rapids, was arrested for trespass, possession of a Schedule II controlled substance-meth, possession of a Schedule I controlled substance-marijuana and two counts of theft-third degree-enhanced.

On May 29, Paul Raymond Perkins, 714 Noble St., was arrested for simple assault.

On May 28, Sean Drew Williams, 411 W. Linn St., was arrested for serious domestic assault.

On May 28, Jason Allan Darter, 1734 Country Club Lane #1, was cited for driving while revoked.

On May 30, Trever John Alman, 509 E. Olive St. Apt. #4, was cited for disorderly conduct.

On May 30, Tiffany Lynn Harris, 509 E. Olive St. Apt. #6, was cited for disorderly conduct.

On May 30, Victoria Maria Meeks, 1005 S. Second St., was cited for dog at large.

Accidents

On May 30, cars driven by Kayla Elizabeth Ocampo, 412 Player St. Apt. #1, was southbound on South Third Avenue and Abigale Ann Uhde, 310 Pembleton Drive, was traveling west on West Boone Street and both stopped at the intersection and started up at the same time colliding in the intersection. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Ocampo car was estimated at $500 while the Uhde car received an estimated $1,000 in damage.

On May 29, a car driven by Danny Chance Whittler, 1215 W. Main St., was exiting his driveway and due to the cars parked on the street obscuring the driver's view it collided with a car driven by Kassandra Marie Donelson, 1508 W. Church St. No injuries were reported. Whittler was cited for unsafe backing onto a highway and Donelson was cited for driving while license is denied, cancelled, revoked or suspended and no insurance. Damage to the Whittler car was estimated at $800 while the Donelson car received an estimated $1,000 in damage.

On May 29, a dump truck driven by Rex Dale Jennings, 2385 238th St., was eastbound on Marion Street stopped at a stop sign when it attempted to back up to allow a semi to turn onto the street from North 18th Avenue and it collided with a pickup driven by William Charles Shain, of Cedar Rapids, which was stopped behind it. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Shain pickup was estimated at $10,000.

On May 27, a pickup driven by Justin Allen Sease, 511 E. Linn St., was northbound on South Center Street when it attempted to make a left hand turn in front of a car driven by Janice Juanita Anderson, 3202 S. 12th St. Lot #178, and the two collided. Anderson was transported to Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center with possible injuries. Sease was cited for failure to yield upon left turn. Damage to the Sease pickup was estimated at $2,000 while the Anderson car received an estimated $4,500 in damage.

On May 27, a motorcycle driven by Brandon Jay White, 505 Woodbury St., was northbound on South Sixth Street when it went out of control and White fell off the back side of his motocycle. White was transported to Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center with injuries. White was cited for no insurance. Damage to the White motorcycle was estimated at $7,000.

On May 24, a car driven by Theodora Elaine Williams, 206 Nicholas Drive Apt. #30, was stopped on the Frontage Road on Iowa Avenue East when it attempted to enter Iowa Avenue and collided with a pickup driven by Michael John Liskowiak, 1802 S. Seventh Ave., which was traveling west on Iowa Avenue. No injuries were reported. Williams was cited for failure to yield upon entering a through highway. Damage to the Williams car was estimated at $3,500 while the Liskowiak pickup was estimated at $150.

On May 23, a car driven by John Robert Dehner, of Rhodes, was northbound on South Fourth Avenue in the right lane when it went through the stop sign at the intersection with East Boone Street and collided with a vehicle driven by Janet Rebecca Johnson, 816 N. Fifth Ave., which was traveling west on Boone Street. Johnson may have received possible injuries, but was not treated or transported from the scene. Dehner was cited for failure to obey a stop sign and yield right of way. Damage to the Dehner car was estimated at $4,000 while the Johnson vehicle received an estimated $300 in damage.

On May 16, a semi driven by Jason William Volkert, of Kingsley, was on the exit ramp from Highway 30 to Highway 14 in the left hand lane enabling it to make a wide right hand turn. A car driven by Luanne Renee Langstraat, of Vinton, was alson on the ramp in the right hand lane. As the semi began its turn it collided with the Langstraat car which had remained unseen. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Langstraat car was estimated at $4,000.
