PREP SOFTBALL: Lake, Tigers topple Trojans

ELDORA - Alaina Lake tossed a four-hitter and South Hardin got to West Marshall early, scoring four times in the bottom of the first inning on its way to an 8-1 victory in an NICL West Division softball clash Monday night.

Lake struck out four, walked three and allowed four singles for the win, helping the Tigers (3-1, 2-1) pull away. Becky Mazurik was 2-for-2 with a double, three stolen bases and three runs scored to lead South Hardin offensively.

Pamela Westendorf drove in three runs and April Skartvedt plated two as the Tigers got out to an 8-0 lead through five innings. Kortney Crosser and Hope Van Zante also had hits for South Hardin, which goes to Grundy Center tonight.

West Marshall (1-7, 0-1) suffered its fifth straight loss, coming up with just four hits while committing three errors. Rachel Freland struck out four, walked two and hit a batter in the league defeat.

Georgia Porter, Kenadey Porter, Morgan Hopper and Sadie Simatovich each had a hit for the Trojans, while pinch-runner Blair Bailey scored in place of Karis Gibbs for the team's lone run.

West Marshall entertains Class 2A No. 13 AGWSR tonight in State Center.

BCLUW 11, South Tama 0, 6 innings

TAMA - The Class 2A No. 11 Comets jumped out to a 9-0 lead after two innings and cruised to an 11-0, six-inning win over South Tama in NICL West action.

BCLUW (4-1, 1-0) notched its third win in a row with its quick-hitting offense. Makayla Van Cleave, Sara Sharp, Sarah McCoy and Nicole Montgomery each had two hits to pace the Comet attack, while Nicolette Simpson struck out five in a one-hitter.

Hailee Weiss had the lone hit for South Tama (3-5, 1-2). Samantha Holtz took the loss, striking out three and walking one while allowing 12 hits in the circle.

The Trojans host 3A No. 4 East Marshall tonight in conference play.

AGWSR 6, East Marshall 3

ACKLEY - AGWSR struck for four runs in the bottom of the first inning, paving the way to a 6-3 victory over East Marshall in an early-season clash between ranked NICL West heavyweights.

Marissa Horner went 1-for-2 but drove in four runs for the host Cougars (4-0, 1-0), who scored four in the first and two in the fifth. Madi Fryslie was 2-for-3 with a double, a run scored and an RBI, while Hannah Johnson was 1-for-2 with a run and an RBI.

Sophomore pitcher Ashley Sicard struck out seven and walked one, scattering eight hits for the win. East Marshall's were the first runs allowed by Sicard all season.

Mariah Fritz took the loss in the circle for the Mustangs (6-1, 1-1), who sustained their first loss of the year. She struck out six and walked three, with three runs coming unearned. No offensive statistics were available for East Marshall, which hosts South Tama tonight in Le Grand.

AGWSR goes to West Marshall tonight in league play.
