Summer is coming and so are the Camp Creamery actors from the Old Creamery Theatre Company in Amana. Marlene Reece, retired teacher from Eldora-New Providence, suggested that the New Providence Roundhouse would be a fine location for the original drama camp when she served on the board of directors for OCTC. As a result, the local site can boast it is the only location in Iowa to have hosted all seven of the annual camps consecutively.
"Our original purpose was to open the door for rural Iowa students to participate in an activity often available only in metropolitan areas, and at an affordable price for families. One of the unique features of our cast is the participation by visiting grandchildren of area residents over the years," Reece said.
The actors will lead a five-day drama camp at the New Providence Roundhouse, rehearsing daily from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 15-19. At 7 p.m. July 19 they will perform "Merlin's Apprentice and the Deadly Dragon" for the public, followed by light refreshments.
Actors from the 2012 Camp Creamery in Eldora present the program “Calamity Jane & The Legend of Dry Gulch.”
Camp Creamery: "Merlin's Apprentice and the Deadly Dragon" is a weeklong workshop for children interested in exploring the exciting world of theater. The camp is designed to give children ages 7 and up the unique opportunity to work and perform with three professional actors from The Old Creamery Theatre while they rehearse and present a play. "Merlin's Apprentice and the Deadly Dragon" is a brand new musical full of magic and madcap fun. Registration is first come, first served and everyone who signs up will be cast in the show. This is a great way for boys and girls to have a fantastic theatrical adventure this summer.
Children must commit to attending all rehearsals and the final performance in order to participate in Camp Creamery. A bus from Eldora to New Providence will be provided for the daily rehearsals. For questions call Reece at 515-681-4818.
Registration forms can be found at the E-NP Elementary School and the Eldora Public Library. Forms are also at the libraries in Iowa Falls, Hubbard, Radcliffe, Union and Marshalltown or electronically by contacting Reece at email@example.com.
