JANESVILLE - A two-run single by Courtney Stuart finished off North Tama's three-run sixth inning as the Redhawks ousted Class 1A No. 12 Janesville in the Wildcats' season opener, winning 4-0 in Wednesday's Iowa Star Conference clash.
North Tama (7-2, 4-1) struck for an unearned run in the fourth inning and tacked on three more in the sixth, rebounding from a 12-0 loss to top-ranked Don Bosco just two nights earlier.
In addition to being Janesville's season opener, it was North Tama's fifth straight road game. The Redhawks host GMG on Friday in Traer.
MHS JV baseball edges host Newton
NEWTON - The Marshalltown junior varsity baseball team captured a 6-4 win over Newton on Tuesday night.
Michael Schrempf earned the win on the mound for the Bobcats, allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits over three innings. Matt Battles surrendered two runs on five hits in two innings.
Leading the Bobcat attack offensively were Luke Severson and Jordan Smith, both of whom went 2-for-3 with a double and a stolen base. Justus Bjelland was 1-for-2 with a double and two runs scored, while Brandin Chaloupek went 1-for-3 with a double, a run and three RBIs.
