PARKERSBURG - West Marshall threatened but could not provide enough of an answer to Aplington-Parkersburg's fast start, falling to the Falcons 7-5 in Thursday's cross-NICL baseball game.
Tim Pollock pitched two shutout innings in relief of Logan DeBoer to help Aplington-Parkersburg (4-2) maintain its two-run lead. West Marshall (4-2) scored three times in the top of the fifth inning in response to A-P's three-run fourth, but the Trojans were unable to keep the rally going.
Garrett Nichols took the loss for West Marshall, allowing four runs (two earned) on four hits and two walks with two strikeouts over three innings. Dylan Petermeier pitched the final three frames, allowing two hits, three runs (two earned), two walks and a strikeout.
Jared Riemenschneider connected for his first home run of the season, a two-run shot that gave West Marshall a 2-0 lead in the top of the first. He finished 2-for-4 and scored twice.
Jake Pszanka was 2-for-3 with a double, two runs and an RBI, while Garrett Goodwin also finished 2-for-3 at the plate. The aforementioned trio accounted for six of the Trojans' eight hits.
West Marshall meets East Marshall in an NICL West Division clash tonight in Gilman.
Montezuma 10, GMG 0, 5 innings
MONTEZUMA - GMG committed seven errors in suffering its seventh consecutive loss, a 10-0 setback at the hands of host Montezuma.
Noah Thurston had a double to lead the Wolverines offensively. Tyler Thurston went 1-for-3 and Jacob Burt was 1-for-2.
GMG plays an Iowa Star Conference game tonight against North Tama at 7 p.m. in Traer.
