The 26th annual Lennox/Quakerdale Invitational Pro-Am Golf Tournament will be held Thursday at Elmwood Country Club, kicking off with a short clinic by Champions Tour golfer Andy Bean at 11:30 a.m. on the first tee.
This year there will be 30 teams of golfers, comprised of four amateurs and one PGA Club professional.
Co-charing the event are Lance Horbach and Lee Eft. Horbach was elected to the Iowa House of Representatives in 1998 and retired this past January. Eft has been with Lenox for 38 years, the last 17 of them in Iowa as the Des Moines district sales manager.
Other celebrities joining the tournament this year include Dr. Tom Davis, former men's basketball coach at Iowa and Drake; Paul Krause, former Minnesota Viking and Hall of Famer; Johnny Orr, former Iowa State men's basketball coach; Troy Dannen, athletic director at Northern Iowa; Nate Kaeding, former Hawkeye and San Diego Chargers placekicker; Patrick Dix, WHO-TV 13 news anchor; Bobby Hansen, Iowa Speedway Business Development; and Bob Tibbetts, the actor who portrays 'Dave Lennox' in all Lennox media advertising.
STC, Grinnell alumni to meet on gridiron
For the first time ever, the South Tama County and Grinnell alumni will play in a football game against each other.
The first-ever alumni football contest will take place at 7 p.m. Saturday at South Tama County High School.
Tickets for the event are $10. South Tama fans can purchase tickets before Saturday at Ultimate Image, Ellenbecker's Oil Co., Bumblebee's and Fareway.
