The Marshalltown sophomore baseball team lost to and tied rival Ames on Monday, falling 4-2 in eight innings and finishing game two in an 8-8 tie.
Ames scored twice in the top of the eighth to win the opener despite being outhit 6-4. Brandin Chaloupek suffered the loss, allowing two unearned runs in his 1 1/3 innings of relief work.
Jordan Smith led MHS (1-5-1, 1-2-1) with two hits, while Joe Rebik and Kyler Ladehoff both drove in a run. Rebiks hit was a double.
In the nightcap, the Bobcats scored once in the bottom of the seventh to answer Ames' go-ahead run in the top half.
Chaloupek drove in three runs for MHS, going 1-for-3 at the plate. Peyton Williams, Reggie Johannes and Rebik each added a single, with Williams scoring twice.
Marshalltown pitching issued a combined 25 walks in the Central Iowa Conference Northern Division doubleheader.
