STATE CENTER - Jared Johnson's second career home run was a three-run shot that came in West Marshall's six-run sixth inning eruption as the Trojans took down Lynnville-Sully 11-5 in non-conference baseball Thursday.
West Marshall (12-3) took a 5-3 lead into the sixth before the offensive outburst, which made a winner out of starting pitcher Garrett Nichols. The freshman left-hander allowed two runs - one earned - on two hits and three walks with four strikeouts over four innings.
Ross Randall, Cody Berns and Garrett Goodwin combined to pitch the last three innings, with Goodwin striking out two in the top of the seventh.
Dylan Petermeier went 3-for-3 with an RBI, two runs scored and three stolen bases. Goodwin doubled and scored, while additional singles came from Jared Riemenschneider and Randall.
The loss dropped the visiting Hawks to 3-13.
West Marshall returns to NICL West Division play tonight with a trip to Ackley to face AGWSR.
South Hardin 6, AGWSR 2
ELDORA - David Shindelar struck out seven, scattering six hits and three walks over a complete game pitching performance as South Hardin beat AGWSR for the second time in three days.
South Hardin (2-8, 2-7) scored four times in the fourth inning to break free for a 6-2 win, just two days after getting its first win of the season, 10-7, at AGWSR (3-8, 2-5).
Shindelar was 2-for-2 with a run scored, while Blake Drury was 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI for the Tigers.
Aplington-Parkersburg 9, Grundy Center 6
PARKERSBURG - Tyler Peters homered and Cade Alberts drove in three runs as Aplington-Parkersburg tallied a 9-6 win over Grundy Center in cross-NICL play.
Clint Kannegieter was 2-for-4 with two runs scored for the Falcons (9-5), who scored five times in the fifth inning to overcome Grundy Center's 3-2 lead.
CAL 16, Meskwaki 6, 6 innings
ALEXANDER - CAL scored in each of its six at-bats to defeat Meskwaki 16-6 in Iowa Star Conference play.
Meskwaki (0-6) was led by Orlando Kapayou, who went 2-for-4 with a run scored and two RBIs. Victor Garcia added an RBI double and Tyus Grant also had a hit for the Warriors. Terrell Grant walked four times, stole four bases and scored twice.
Tyus Grant took the loss on the mound, allowing eight runs (four earned) in three innings. He allowed three hits, walked four and struck out seven.
Janesville 3, Colo-NESCO 2
JANESVILLE - Tim Swanson pitched five innings of scoreless relief and also went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI to lead Janesville past Colo-NESCO in Wednesday's Iowa Star Conference clash.
Colo-NESCO scored twice off starter Turner Frey in the first inning, but managed only four hits after the second against Swanson.
